Henk Sa (Managing Director) is one of the most experienced people in South Africa when it comes to the application of climate change mitigation measures. In 2004, after working as a strategy consultant in the energy field at PwC, Henk joined EcoSecurities. He moved to Johannesburg in 2006 to establish an African climate change strategy and carbon credit development operation. During this time, and afterwards as one of the founders of EcoMetrix Africa, he developed numerous GHG strategies and CDM projects/methodologies including Transalloy’s Energy Efficiency Project and the Highveld Steel Open Slag Bath Methodology.

Lodewijk Nell (Director Consultancy) has more than 10 years experience in the development and financing of low-carbon energy projects/technologies. He gained specific expertise in climate change mitigation consultancy during the last four years. Lodewijk holds a MSc. in Chemical Engineering and successfully completed MBA courses at Rotterdam School of Management as part of PwC’s management development programme. Before cofounding EcoMetrix Africa in 2009, he managed a team of energy management consultants at PwC and was responsible for the commercialisation of new energy technologies at TNO, a 5000 FTE applied research organisation.

Sean Buchanan (Projects Director) is responsible for ensuring that projects are delivered according to client expectations. Moreover, he provides project management and financial modelling services in the field of carbon financing. Sean has gained extensive African CDM experience whilst employed at EcoSecurities where he successfully registered several projects employing diverse technologies. Before EcoSecurities, Sean worked for the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research in the Systems Dynamics group where he was responsible for modelling the possible effects of climate change in South Africa. Sean, being a founder of two other small businesses has developed substantial business and financial expertise during his career.

Jan Willem Timmer (Consultant to the firm) has gained several years of experience in consulting on public finance and public policy issues. He holds a LLM degree in Law and Economics from Harvard University and a MSc degree in Finance from the University of Oxford, where he graduated cum laude. He is co-author of the book ‘Taxes and the Economy: A Survey on the Impact of Taxes on Growth, Employment, Investment, Consumption and the Environment’, published worldwide by Edward Elgar Publishing, UK. The book examines, among other things, the use and impact of taxation as a tool in the environmental realm.

Melissa Kambare (Carbon Consultant) has professional experience in carbon financing, energy cost auditing and energy management. She has been involved in several renewable energy projects assessing carbon financing feasibility as well as preparing projects for registration under the CDM, the common global carbon credit standard. In addition Melissa assisted energy intensive organisations with improving overall profitability by introducing advanced energy procurement systems in the day to day operations. Melissa’s expertise also includes advising on financing/funding of renewable and low carbon energy projects. Melissa holds a BSc Honours Degree in Business Administration from the University of Zimbabwe.

Stacy Naicker (Consulting Engineer) has professional experience in chemical process modelling, techno-economic evaluations and carbon footprinting within the energy sector. Stacy provides technical insight to consulting assignments and carbon finance projects under development. She also gained experience in advising on financing/funding renewable and low carbon energy projects. Before joining EcoMetrix, Stacy was active within the chemical industry as a process engineer. Moreover, Stacy acquired chemical research experience in both pulp & paper and synfuel industry. She has been educated in Chemical Engineering (B.Sc) and Project Management.

Storm Steenkamp (Senior Associate) has an investment banking and finance background. She gained three years of experience in international capital markets prior to completing her Masters in Carbon Management (University of Edinburgh). Her field of expertise includes the impacts of Climate Change as well as effective carbon emission reduction solutions.
