Red Cap Kouga Wind Farm

A multiphase wind farm development in the Eastern Cape, South Africa

In the interest of reducing carbon emissions, associated with the generation of electricity, the Red Cap Kouga Wind Farm Development Company developed a wind farm in the Humansdorp area of the Eastern Cape, South Africa. The farm will include approximately 300 MW of installed capacity delivered by 121 wind turbines.

The Project is developed under the CDM

Wind farms produce clean electricity without the need to burn fossil fuels, which is still is currently the case for more than 90% of the electricity produced in South Africa. The emission reductions achieved by feeding wind-based electricity into the grid reduce the carbon intensity of the electricity grid and assist South Africa in its fight against climate change.

As the project requires additional funding to make it economically feasible and sustainable, the project has been registered under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which stimulates sustainable development and emission reductions via the creation of tradable carbon credits.
