Henk Sa (Partner) is one of the most experienced people in South Africa when it comes to the application of climate change mitigation measures. In 2004, after working as a strategy consultant in the energy field at PwC, Henk joined EcoSecurities. He moved to Johannesburg in 2006 to establish an African climate change strategy and carbon credit development operation. During this time, and afterwards as one of the founders of EcoMetrix Africa, he developed numerous GHG strategies and CDM projects/methodologies including Transalloy’s Energy Efficiency Project and the Highveld Steel Open Slag Bath Methodology.

Lodewijk Nell (Partner) has gained more than ten years of experience in developing, financing and commercializing low-carbon energy projects and technologies during his tenure at EcoSecurities/JP Morgan, TNO and PwC. When moving to South Africa in 2009 and co-founding EcoMetrix Africa, he widened his focus to energy and climate change management consultancy. He has assisted government and business across the spectrum of strategy and policy development, performance management and the implementation of low-carbon activities. Lodewijk holds a MSc in Chemical Engineering, successfully completed MBA courses at the Rotterdam School of Management of Erasmus University and the Dutch Institute of Marketing (NIMA).

Thapelo Tladi (Consultant) is a Geoscientist with a BSc (Hons) degree in Geology and experience in the mining and mineral exploration industries. He spent a few years working on open-pit and underground coal mines and also coordinating coal exploration projects for various mines in the Witbank/Emalahleni areas. During this time he developed a passion for sustainable mineral and energy resource use and also for curbing the environmental impacts associated with coal mining and coal-fired power generation. This led him to pursue an MSc degree in International Energy at Sciences Po in Paris, which was grounded in energy policy, energy economics and sustainability in relation to energy industries where he received a distinction for his Masters thesis on the “12L Income Tax for Energy Efficiency Savings”.

Jan Willem Timmer (Senior Consultant) has gained several years of experience in consulting on public finance and public policy issues. He holds a LLM degree in Law and Economics from Harvard University and a MSc degree in Finance from the University of Oxford, where he graduated cum laude. He is co-author of the book ‘Taxes and the Economy: A Survey on the Impact of Taxes on Growth, Employment, Investment, Consumption and the Environment’, published worldwide by Edward Elgar Publishing, UK. The book examines, among other things, the use and impact of taxation as a tool in the environmental realm.

Kinesh Chetty (Principal Consultant) is a green business visionary and brings unique insight combining environmentally sound innovation with economically viable business orientated solutions, advising on climate change, green growth strategies and the protection of natural ecosystems Kinesh has been intimately involved in renewable energy for the last 8 years and is a recognised industry leader in field of Photovoltaic or Solar Energy. He has been involved in the development of training courses and standard setting for the deployment Solar PV in South Africa. He served 2 years as board member at SAPVIA – South African Photovoltaic Industry Association. Kinesh has facilitated numerous workshops all over Africa and has been directly involved in the capacity development of 1500 solar installers from the subcontinent. Kinesh holds a B.Sc. (hons) and M.Sc. degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of the Witwatersrand.

Solophina Nekesa (Consultant) has a background in Green Architecture and Urban Design. She has gained experience in planning off-grid sustainable communities as well as designing affordable net-zero energy buildings especially in rural areas. Additionally, she acquired experience in designing biogas and solar energy systems for institutions and buildings. As a consultant, she is working on projects, in collaboration with private and international funding, that seek to promote comprehensive sustainable practices at a company and a sector level. This was following her research and fieldwork on the environmental impacts of the clay brick and cement sectors in Uganda and how integrated policy can guide their sustainable development. Solophina holds a Master of Architecture degree in Sustainable and Energy Efficient Cities from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg and a Bachelor of Architecture (Hons) degree from Makerere University Kampala, Uganda.

Amo Mokoape (Consultant) is a BSc Environmental Science graduate from the University of the Witwatersrand. Her passion lies in ascertaining that the general public are aware of environmental issues and are thus empowered when dealing with and through them. This has informed her decision to attain her MSc Sustainability and Adaptation from a prestigious UK science university, Centre of Alternative Technology. Amo has a background and interest in communications and public relations making her ability to translate expert environmental advice to a language that interests and can be understood by the everyday news reader unmatched and invaluable.

Tshediso Mabelane (Consultant) has gained several years of experience in assessing and developing renewable energy projects in Southern Africa. Projects concern biowaste to energy including biogas production at a basic sow piggery in Limpopo and solar photo voltaic electricity. He has been seconded to several projects as project development manager and has been active as project developer at his own firm New Black Investments as well. Having acquired a keen interest in biowaste to energy projects, he followed advanced professional training in ‘waste water and ‘waste management’ and ‘renewable energies’ in Bayern, Germany. Tshediso holds a BCom in Economics from the University of the Witwatersrand and in addition is trained in project financial modelling and financial business administration.

Joris van der Geest (Consultant to the Firm) has over 15 years of experience in investment management, M&A advisory and project finance for large scale (renewable) energy projects across the globe. After 10 years of international experience with the energy team of NIBC corporate finance, he switched to Triodos Bank, a Dutch pioneer in sustainable banking. At Triodos Investment Management, he was as head of the investment team responsible for the Ampere Equity Fund, a specialized fund acquiring large scale renewable energy projects. After successfully investing the Funds’ capital in solar and wind projects, he started as independent investment advisor. As such, he is Fund Manager for Energiefonds Brabant, a government owned renewable energy fund, and member of the Investment Committee for Susi Partners’ Renewable Energy Funds.
